Cheap Studio Apartments for Rent throughout the United States are Plentiful
If you’re looking for cheap studio apartments in a particular area of the country you’re in luck. Now a days there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of websites that list a number of low cost apartments in most of the major cities of the country.
You have to be careful and do a lot of research because a lot of the cheap 1 bedroom apartments you’ll find will be in bad neighborhoods. Don’t get discouraged and by all means don’t give up. You have to keep searching until you find what you’re looking for in a nice neighborhood.
To give you an example, about twenty years ago I was looking for an apartment in Coral Gables, Florida, which is one of the most affluent and expensive cities in the country. Doctors, lawyers and judges from Miami live in Coral Gables.
How Much Can You Afford for a Cheap Studio Apartment?
I was earning about ten dollars an hour as an administrative assistant at some office so I certainly didn’t have the salary of a doctor or a lawyer. I had something else though. I knew that if I persisted that I would eventually get what I wanted so I kept looking because I wanted to live in Coral Gables.
There were a lot of cheap one bedroom apartments in Miami and the surrounding areas and I was in fact living in Miami Beach paying four-hundred dollars a month for a studio apartment. I just didn’t like living in Miami Beach because of the crowds.
After about two weeks of looking though the newspapers and not really finding anything in my price range I took a different approach.
Sometimes You Have to Change Your Approach to Find a Low Cost Apartment
I got in my car and began driving around Coral Gables looking for rent signs.
When I spotted a sign I’d stop and talk to the property owner and most of them were nice people, they just wanted too much money in rent. I kept going from one property to another until I found the perfect one.
I was driving parallel to a golf course when I spotted a rent sign. I knocked on the front door of the main house and when a little old lady opened the door she gave me a big smile and said, “You want to see the apartment don’t you?”
Of course I immediately said yes, so we went behind the property where a small building was located. Inside the building were two apartments. One of the apartments was a one-bedroom and the other was a small but very nice studio apartment.
As we were talking the woman told me how her husband had died and she lived alone in the big house and she needed someone on the property to help her feel safe. I thought she was going to ask me to move in the main house and I was surprised when she looked at me and said, “I’ll give you the studio apartment for three-hundred dollars a month.
I looked up at the sky and thanked God and all of the self-help books that I’d read that taught me to be persistent and to keep looking until you find what you want. I not only got a very nice apartment at a low rate, I was living across the street from a golf course behind a mansion and paying less money in a nice place.
